Traditional Ayurveda and Ghee

Traditional Ayurveda and Ghee

In Ayurveda, ghee is far more than a cooking fat — it is considered one of the most sattvic and healing substances available to the body.

Known as 'ghrita' in Sanskrit texts, ghee is believed to enhance ojas — the vital essence responsible for immunity, strength, and radiance.

It is used in Panchakarma therapies, in preparations like 'ghrita pana' for internal cleansing, and as a base for medicated ghee infused with herbs for targeted therapeutic use.

Ayurveda also recommends ghee for nasya (nasal therapy), as a carrier for herbal medicines, and topically for dry skin and minor burns.

While modern kitchens use ghee primarily for flavour, its roots in traditional healing are a reminder of just how deeply it is woven into Indian wellness practices.
